In 2002, two families gathered together in a Frisco home with the dream of starting a vibrant church. That dream eventually blossomed into Shawnee Trail Church of Christ, a thriving fellowship of over 600 members on a mission to change Frisco for the better. Nearly twenty years later, Shawnee’s vision expanded to include church planting in surrounding North Texas communities.
Crossway Church of Christ was born out of this vision in 2022, and today, we’re a small but mighty family of believers woven into the life of the Celina community. Nothing lights us up quite like helping people thrive in the work God has called them to do by creating an environment where all are welcome, neighbors can connect with neighbors, and spiritual discovery and accountability are encouraged.
A CLOSER LOOK… We are a people striving to practice the truths of God’s living word, living out a genuine faith in support of the fellowship of believers that meet at this place and our communities at large. Following the New Testament church as described in the book of Acts, we want to grow and encourage one another to walk with Jesus, to share the good news of Christ with a broken world. Life can be challenging and sometime hopeless, but we want to be recognized as a “spiritual hospital”, a place where people can share those burdens and seek the peace of God that transitions all understanding.
We want to be known for our faith, hospitality and welcoming spirit. God created each of us with distinctive character, and Crossway is living proof of a body of people from every age group, culture and walk of life. That’s what makes a church family special! So come worship and praise God with joy and love this Sunday!
Lead Minister
John has served as the Lead Minister since October 2021. Before coming to Crossway he served the University Church of Christ in Denver, Colorado for 13 years. John and his wife Leisa are native Texans and met in Lubbock, Texas in the Adventures In Missions (AIM) program at the Sunset International Bible Institute (SIBI) where they trained to do mission work in Edinburgh, Scotland.
A year after returning to Texas, John and Leisa married, and John began working with the AIM program as a recruiter. John is a graduate of the SIBI and then later earned a Master’s of Science in Ministry from Lubbock Christian University. John and Leisa have been married for 41 years and have two sons, and five granddarlings.
Youth Minister
Joel Bailey began serving full-time as Youth Minister at Crossway in June 2025, after first joining the church family in July 2022. Having served in youth ministry since 2008, Joel brings a wealth of experience to Crossway, including ten years as a full-time youth and campus minister in South Arkansas, where he also earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
He currently serves on the board of Camp Kurios, the church camp he grew up attending, and helps direct the high school week each summer. Camp Kurios continues to fuel his passion for student ministry.
Inspired by the youth ministers who shaped his own walk with Christ, Joel has a heart for impacting the next generation. He is committed to walking alongside students as they grow in faith, navigate life, and discover their identity in Jesus. His approach is relational, energetic, and grounded in a deep love for the Church and its future leaders.
Joel has been married to his wife, Sarah, since 2006. Together, they have four children: Jackson, Grace, Anna, and Zoey. Outside of ministry, Joel is an avid sports fan (all things Dallas—except for college football, where it’s Go Razorbacks!) and a lifelong music lover.
